The Kawaihae Crescent project consists of two separate sections, East & West:
Kawaihae Crescent East consists of 37 units in 6 buildings located along the mountain at 464 Kawaihae St through 532 Kawaihae St.
Kawaihae Crescent West consists of 61 units in 8 buildings located along the mountain at 290 Kawaihae St through 400 Kawaihae St.
Both projects, the -East and the -West were completed in 1973 and have the same layout with large 3-bedroom attached townhomes in a 4 story walk-up design, in 5-plex, 8-plex and 11-plex buildings. Each project has their own respective association.
All ground floor units feature 3-bedrooms, 2-bath with generous 1,300 sq ft interior living space in a single level layout, with concrete ceiling and concrete walls on all sides and additional outdoor space. This is a rare combination for a 3-bedroom unit at this price point in Hawaii Kai.
All ground floor units feature a private walled courtyard of about 500 sq ft off the kitchen / dining room area that allows for outdoor entertaining and barbecuing. All ground floor units also have two additional half covered patios on the street side off the master bedroom and the living room at the front entrance. For privacy and security, there is a rod iron lockable gate separating the front door patio from the common walkways of the project. With the private walled courtyard in the back and the patio spaces in front, ground floor units enjoy a nice indoor / outdoor lifestyle and appear somehow larger than they actually are.
All upstairs units feature an additional half bath and with between 1,470 sq ft to 1,506 sq ft interior living space spread out over at least two floors. Although larger on the interior, the upstairs units do not have the outdoor space (for barbecuing, etc..) that the downstairs units enjoy.
Instead, the upstairs units have some vaulted ceilings and some units also have loft spaces above the bedrooms.
All units come with one covered parking stall next to the building and one open stall. Each unit also comes with outside storage above the covered parking stall.
There is no visitor parking in the project, but for the most part there is plenty street parking.
There was some concern about the projects close proximity to the mountain when a few years ago a huge boulder came down and landed in the open parking lot at the Kawaihae Crescent West project. Repairs to the exterior of one the buildings were done at that time.
