About Lanikea at Waikiki
The Lanikea at Waikiki condo was an important benchmark when it was completed in 2005. Not only was it the 1st residential condo built by Alexander & Baldwin, it was the 1st condo building finished at all in Waikiki for over a decade. This was a solid sign that construction was back after the long lull due to factors that included the long felt effects of the 1990's Japanese economic collapse.

The Lanikea at Waikiki made it clear that new, upscale living spaces were back in a big way. They limited each floor to only 4 units, for example, so you get the kind of space you've always wanted in a home. You have over 1,100 sq ft to make your own, including 2BAs, so no waiting every morning to get into that most important of rooms.

The developer actually bought surrounding lots in order to get the approval for the maximum 350ft height for the project. That resulted in beautiful vistas that include the ocean for many floors – and still does.

Rezoning, though, has opened up the possibility that the 2080 Kalakaua building, formerly Niketown, could be built up to that same 350ft level in the future. This could definitely impact those ocean views. Nothing has happened yet, but we believe homebuyers should be fully informed about any issues surrounding a property.
