About Mokuleia Real Estate
Homes in Mokuleia is located in a truly an off-the-beaten-path community on Oahu’s North Shore. Located at the very western end of this famous stretch of beaches, Mokuleia is small, quiet, and without much of the traffic that passes through Haleiwa, Waimea Bay, Pipeline, and other North Shore spots on a daily basis. Farrington Highway, which runs right through Mokuleia from Oahu’s West side, divides this community. On one side of the road lies farms and agricultural land, and on the other lies the Pacific Ocean. Residents truly live a quiet lifestyle here. There are no shopping centers here, and no stores to speak of. However, Mokuleia is home to Mokuleia Beach Park, which offers great windsurfing, kitesurfing, snorkeling and swimming, and Hawaii Polo Club, whose games have become popular local events on Sunday afternoons during the summer months. A bit to the west of Mokuleia is Dillingham Airfield, where companies offer glider rides an skydiving trips. A bit further to the west, lies the beginning of the hike to Kaena Point, the westernmost point on the island. To the east lies Waialua and Haleiwa, more populated and developed North Shore towns, although both still retain the “small beach town” status.
The biggest draw for home-owners in Mokuleia is the small community, close proximity to a less crowded North Shore beach, and the remoteness you feel when you’re here. In addition, Mokuleia homes are on the nicer, more affluent end of the spectrum. Oceanfront houses are just that: oceanfront on a generally uncrowded, beautiful beach. Houses like those on Crozier Lane offer spectacular views of the water, sunrise and sunset. Many have lanais, from which residents enjoy ocean and mountain views, and large windows that allow for great beach views even when you’re inside. Spacious, open layouts and detailed design elements give these Mokuleia homes an exclusive feel. Most of the oceanside homes offer 1,500 - 3,000 sq ft of living space, 3-5 bedrooms, and lots in the 5,000 to 10,000 sq ft range. However, when the beach is at your backdoor, it can seem like your property just keeps going and going!
Homes located on the mountain side of Farrington Highway are generally not as luxurious, but do offer spacious layouts and amenities of their own. Most of these Mokuleia homes are in easy walking or biking distance to the, and many offer great views of the Waianae Mountains. This is also where the majority of the farmland is located, and you can find homes sitting on 2 acre agricultural lots here, some of which have already been developed for farming. These homes offer 1,800 - 1,900 sq ft of living space, 2 - 3 bedrooms, and some include additional studios or cottages. Of course, not every home on the mountain side of the road sits on a lot this large. Other mountainside Mokuleia homes measure in the 1,500 - 1,600 sq ft range and sit on 5,000 - 8,000 sq ft lots.
There aren’t a lot of homes in Mokuleia, which residents appreciate. Because this isn’t home to one of the North Shore’s most famous beaches, and becauses it’s out of the way, Mokuleia has not been developed like other residential communities on the North Shore. The majority of homes were built in the 1960s and 1970s, but some of the houses on farmland were built as early as the ‘30s, and the newer beachfront homes were built in the ‘80s and ‘90s.
Mokuleia is a special place and is home to beautiful properties, but it’s not for everyone. Those looking for an urban lifestyle and city comforts may love to escape to Mokuleia for a day, but not make their home here. However, anyone looking to escape the fast-paced life in the city, to escape crowds and urban development may just find Mokuleia their dream location. Those looking for a quiet beach on Oahu, a place to start a farming venture and live off the land, or just find a small and undeveloped community in a beautiful location should take a serious look at Mokuleia!
