There are a lot less homes in Kawela Bay than there used to be. Back in 1986 a resort was planned to be put here. To make room all the residents along the eastern half of the Bay were evicted, clearing the land completely.
It’s no mystery why they wanted to build here. The landscape and the ocean views are both incredible, a throwback to the Old Hawaii’s unsullied scenery.
Decades later this prime real estate remains open, a result of downturns and different plans along the way that went wrong. Fortunately, the lots on the western half escaped the condemnation, holding matchless homes today. Sometimes they even come up for sale.
KAWELA BAY – SELECT HOMES ON SUPERIOR LOTS The most notable houses are within a gated community that lies right along the western side of Kawela Bay. Only about 20 residences are contained within it, but that's not the only factor that makes them exclusive.
The ocean scenery they enjoy is breathtaking. Although not every home is directly on the water, many of the set back properties still have ocean views due to the open sight lines. It's not just any part of the real estate on North Shore, either. This bay is notable due to its protective reef that keeps the big waves back, making the waters calmer than other places along the coastline.
These are also large homes, most built during the first decade of the 2000’s, with almost 3,000 sq ft on up spreading out on their floor plans. Some could be called small estates with 11,000 to over 21,000 sq ft lots and even two residences on the property in some cases. This is where the well-off come to get away from it all.
The rest of the neighborhood, outside the gated community, run to smaller residences that lie on the coastline off Kamehameha Hwy. They sit to the west of the bay, but still fall under this neighborhood. These are older houses, with dates all over the span from the 1940's to the 70's primarily.
They're also smaller, often under 1,000 sq ft with 2BRs being the most common layout. With 5,000 to 7,000 size lots, their placement right on the Pacific makes them high-priced and highly-prized properties.
PRIZE PROPERTIES FOR EVEN THE NORTH SHORE Entry to this small neighborhood comes with a certain price tag, and for good reason. North Shore oceanfront lots, often luxurious interiors and dimensions, plus a level of serenity few ever get to experience – and that includes fellow residents of this same fabled coastline. Kewala Bay homes have it all and more.
